Description

Social Protection: Lands Of Blossoming Hope – Policymaking specially for the social sector in distressed lands, as I know from my own experience, is never easy. The author has done a commendable job in putting together her experiences in some of the most impoverished lands in Asia and Africa where she worked as a UN official. The book makes fascinating reading. It is all the more relevant today as the poor are still forced to suffer for want of any kind of social protection.

Yashwant Sinha
Former Foreign Minister of India

About the Author

In her long career as a development expert with the United Nations, Usha Mishra Hayes has worked in some of the most demanding situations across Asia and Africa. Her challenge was to build an overarching social protection system to insulate the economically vulnerable against the stabs of poverty and offer them opportunities to improve their lives.
With a master’s degree in Modern History from Jawaharlal Nehru University, she joined the UN team quite early and has been on the long road to Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Cambodia, Tanzania, Afghanistan, Nepal…
Mishra Hayes has been made a Commander (Thipden) in the Royal Order of Sahametri by the Government of Cambodia for her work on ASEAN social protection. She tweets @UshaMishra.
